English for Careers in Food Service  (noncredit)

The Certificate of Competency in English for Careers in Food Service Program equips students with a foundation in the English language skills necessary for communication in the food service or culinary industry.

Program Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will respond adequately to spoken language appropriate for intermediate level learners and use common vocabulary to communicate about topics related to food preparation, workplace safety, and food service.
  • Students will read dialogs and short texts suitable for the level and will write simple sentences and paragraphs using language structures common in the food-related context.

To earn this certificate, students must complete the minimum required courses with a grade of C (or P) or better.

Students completing this certificate will acquire contextualized listening, speaking, vocabulary, reading, and writing skills at the low intermediate level that will prepare them for the educational and career pathways in the ESL and CTE programs as well as in the food service workplace.
